100+ Singapore Craft Beer Bars, Restaurants & Shops: A Comprehensive Guide & Map

It wasn’t that long ago when craft beer was an alien concept to this part of the world. My first Singapore craft beer event was a small fair in a function room in 2011. There were just a few distributors showcasing beers that I hadn’t tasted before, from India Pale Ales (IPAs) to Trappist beers.

Since then, the scene has grown massively. While it remains a small community that won’t make the commercial beer giants lose sleep any time soon, it’s spawned the Beerfest Asia festival and the iBrew homebrewing challenge. There have also been new craft beer bars, local microbreweries and imports practically every month. It’s an expensive hobby to keep up, so I decided to create something useful from this pastime – an omnibus list that answers the question, ‘Where are all the places to drink craft beer in Singapore?’

Instead of a post that highlights a few retail outlets, restaurants, and bars, here’s a census of the best Singapore craft beer spots that I have visited, grouped according to location with the nearest public transport. You can even see which is the nearest Singapore craft beer bar to you with a craft beer map at the end. Craft beer? In Singapore? What’s that?

If you’re new to craft beer or want to introduce it to someone, my post on how to choose craft beer should be your first stop. It covers what craft beer is, the commonly available examples of each style, what you can expect tastewise and how to appreciate it.

I’ve added comments only if I’ve patronised the bar. Unlike other writers, I’ve chosen not to recommend any particular beer from each outlet. Outside of the breweries, the selections rotate all the time, so you may not find something I rave about when you drop by. At best, I can only provide a sense of what they tend to offer.

Talk to the staff about your preferences and preconceived notions and let them surprise you. A few may even offer samples or flights. Alternatively, you may want to check the ratings and tasting notes that other people have left on apps such as Untappd.

If you’re taking a friend to try made in Singapore craft beer, I’ve marked the most reliable (in my opinion) places with a *.

Warning: This being Singapore craft beer appreciation is an expensive hobby. Also, please don’t drink and drive. That’s the only thing in this post you should take as gospel.

Chinatown craft beer bars

American Taproom (Stanley Street)

The latest American Taproom outlet takes over the location of Paris2Tokyo, but the familiar bar fare is on the menu with a selection of 12 taps of draft beer from around the world. There is a gap between 2.30 and 4 p.m. when the kitchen switches from the lunch to the bar menu.

The Coup by Bunkerbunker!!

Bunkerbunker now curates and supplies the bottles and cans in the fridges of The Coup Ann Siang Hill and Apiary Lab in Joo Chiat. Stay tuned to their social media channels for updates on their pop-up events.

Drink Good Beer *

There are 10 taps of Chinese and Singapore craft beers (Alive, Brewlander and Sunbird) for the picking, and until 8 p.m. on weekdays they go for $10. You can order food from the nearby restaurants.

The Good Beer Company (China Square)

Their second outlet has 20 taps of international Singapore craft beer on tap on a rotational basis, paired once again with Pizza Republic’s Italian-style pies from lunchtime on weekdays. Classic pizzas go for $10 on Tuesdays when purchased with a pint, and happy hour runs until 6 p.m.

Lion Brewery Co. *

Lion Brewery Co. has taken over the old Little Creatures premises. The Singapore microbrewery continues to churn out draft beer for on-site consumption while the menu comprises pizzas, pub grub and grilled and smoked meats. Other Singapore craft beer brands feature as guest taps among the selection of 20. Happy hour runs until 7 p.m. on working weekdays.

You can’t miss the sign on the corner heritage shophouse. On Thursdays, the Singapore craft beer on tap goes for a promotional price, and there’s more in the fridge from around the world. Locally distilled spirits from Compendium (Rojak and Chendol Gin) and Brass Lion are also on the menu, as are mussels, pizza and other mains.

OnTap serve their own beers, which span several different traditional styles, in 12-oz tumblers and also in pitchers.

The Otherside is back as a rooftop bar that is accessible via a staircase only. There are six rotating taps and more picks in the fridge. Tune in to their socials for updates on the food pop-ups.

As the name implies, SG Taps started out featuring Singapore craft beer on draft almost exclusively. These have now been joined by options from all over the world on 20 taps and the fridge, in half and full US pints. The kitchen serves up Japanese food like donburi, ramen, oden and wafu pizza.

Smith Street Taps

Most evenings, you’ll find beer geeks huddled this stall in the green zone of Singapore’s largest hawker centre. Up to 12 taps of imported and Singapore craft beer are available. Be prepared to commit to 400-ml glasses (or 300 ml for stronger beers). If you’re wondering what happened to their corner stall at Unit #62, they ceased to operate that in August 2024. The good news is that they now accept credit cards!

Upward Taproom

The little bar features 16 taps of draught craft beer from local and guest foreign microbreweries and a substantial selection from Panda Brew in Beijing, which they import. While the food they provide themselves is limited to complimentary mala-flavoured peanuts, you can also order pizza from the famous Da Michele pizza (of Eat, Pray, Love fame) next door at takeaway prices.

Welcome Ren Min *

Ren Min started life as a hawker centre bar called 3rd Culture. While they now serve their own beers, they still get cans, bottles and kegs from other distributors. Beer comes in 16-oz glasses (stronger ones in 10-oz glasses). There are tap takeovers where you can preorder drinks at discounted prices with dishes from nearby stalls. They have loyalty programmes where you get a free beer for 25 Untappd check-ins or nine draft beers on a stamp card.

Almost Famous

The bar serves 16 beers on tap and a mod-Asian selection of bites (food not available on Mondays). They go to the trouble of highlighting the Singapore craft beer options on the menu, and there are usually two or more of them. The standard serving size here is a 16-oz pint, though the more premium beers are also available in middies. The hard surfaces mean that the small enclosed space can get rowdy. Beer subscriptions are available for at-home consumption.

Ang Mo Liang Teh

You’ll find bottles, cans and up to eight taps of Singapore craft beers and international ones. If you are peckish, they have siew yoke, char siew (Cantonese-style roast pork belly and BBQ pork) and pizzas. Find them opposite the Shenton Way bus terminal, or a five-minute walk from Exit H of the MRT station.

Autobar

Started by the same people behind The Autobus, you’ll also find protein bowls for lunch and tapas for dinner. There are 22 taps of draft craft beer and cocktails, and a massive selection of natural wines in the fridge.

A short walk from Lau Pa Sat. There are more than 30 taps of beers from Eastern Europe, the US, Singapore and even China (servings are in half- and US pints). There are more beers, ciders and natural wines from the rest of the world in the fridge. Protein bowls are available for lunch but the kitchen switches to bar bites, big mains, charcuterie and cheese boards in the evening.

The mainstays at this offshoot of this New York City chain are the burgers and enormous milkshakes, but the beer menu is dedicated entirely to Singapore craft beers and imported microbrews from Oceania and the United States, both on tap and in bottles. Early reservations are highly recommended.

Here’s a Singapore microbrewery that holds a record: LeVeL33 touts itself as the world’s highest urban craft brewery, the main attraction is admittedly the sweeping view of the Marina Bay area. An outdoor seat usually comes with minimum spending of $50 per head on food and drinks, but I got away without it on a quiet weekday afternoon.

The house beers are easy to drink, and they can be sampled in a flight of five, besides the usual half and full pours. Note that the porter is but a blend of their stout and IPA, not a unique brew. The food menu is worth highlighting for its use of brewing ingredients and by-products, and you can choose between a fine dining menu or shared plates.

Little Island Brewing Co. @ South Beach

The Bavarian institution has operated a Singapore microbrewery since the mid-1990s. While they follow the Reinheitsgebot in the making of their beers, you might not know that they use the local tap water. There are three core beers to choose from: a light lager, a malty dark lager and a Weissbier (the latter comes in 500-ml glasses only). In addition to these, there are seasonal beers like the Salvator (Lenten bock) and the Festbier. As you might expect, the menu features German cuisine extensively. Happy Hour runs until 8 p.m. daily; on Sundays and Mondays, it’s 1-for-1, and on other days, it’s 20% off.

BeerTruck by Pink Blossoms *

Pink Blossoms brings eight taps of their own beers beyond the taproom in a roving truck. Flights of four beers (5.5 fl oz), 8- and 16-oz pours are available, as are small fried and crispy dishes. The Marina Bay Event Square is at the end of Marina Bay Sands Shoppes outside Black Tap.

TAP Craft Beer Bar (Robinson)

The main selling point at TAP is the price of the beers, which now start from $12++ for 16 oz. The 20 taps at each outlet heavily feature American breweries like Lost Coast and Great Divide, with a few English, Australian, Vietnamese and Singapore craft beer choices. Bar bites like wings, wedges, ribs and pasta are available, now that both outlets have full kitchens.

Alchemy

Previously at Central Mall, Alchemy has been around longer than most and has bottled and canned craft beers in their fridge. You’ll find macro lagers like Asahi on tap. It shares the co-working space with a cafe during the day. It also ran a Singapore craft beer-only subscription programme, Subscribeers.

American Taproom (Waterloo)

ATR boasts an impressive 32 taps behind the bar. Glasses come in 7-oz tasters and 16-oz Spiegelau glasses, with some having an 11-oz option. Stone and Deschutes beers are a regular fixture but you’ll also find kegs from other countries and the occasional Singapore craft beer. Besides these, full-sized meals, wines and spirits are also available. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, full pours go for 15-30% less the usual prices.

Set in an old terrace house that the Chinese Druggist Association used to occupy. With Mikkeller, To Øl, Lervig and more on the 24 taps, expect bold flavours. The beer comes in gold-rimmed tulip glasses but serving sizes run a touch smaller than you’ll find elsewhere: half portions are 200 ml and large ones around 420 ml. The food here can be described as Mod-Sin fusion bites. Happy hour runs from 3 to 6 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays (except public holidays).

You can have the beers in half-pints, full US pints or a one-litre Masskrug, all with the appropriate glassware. Happy hour (20% off pints) runs until 7 pm. on weekdays and all day on Sundays. Started brewing their own beers decades before craft beer became a thing in Singapore. Bottles, growlers, kegs and pub grub are also available. The range includes six core beers, two seasonal specials and three guest taps. You can have them in anything from an 11-oz stem to a 4-litre tower to a flight of four 4-oz glasses. The TV screens show live sports channels so you don’t have to choose between watching football and microbrews.

Canjob, formerly known as Booze Pharma-C and Little Papa’s Wieners, occupies a cosy unit in Link Hotel. There are up to six beers on tap, poured in 16-oz pints, along with cocktails and a fridge stocked with a selection of packaged international and Singapore craft beer. Happy Hour runs all day on Tuesdays and Sundays. You can also get the draft beers to go in 11-oz/330-ml cans. As befits its former guise, the grub takes the form of hot dogs and meat pies.

Located in the Watermark condominium but facing the Singapore River, Gulp serves up The Pie Monger’s pies to go with the craft beer on their eight taps and in their fridge. Most of them are from the UK–think Overtone, Polly’s, Track, Vault City and more. You get a 15% discount if you takeaway four or more from the fridge.

Sonny’s Pizza (special mention)

17 Circular Road (Raffles Place)

American- and fusion-style pizzas are sold by the slice at Sonny’s, with a decent selection of canned and bottled local and international craft beer (including Black Kite from Hong Kong) and cocktails in the fridge to pair with them. It’s a no-frills environment, so don’t expect cups, glass or reusable tableware.

Druggists‘s sister outlet, which used to have outlets at The Grandstand and Wheelock Place, has moved to the online format. It’s the go-to place for Danish beers that aren’t Carlsberg (Amager, Mikkeller, Tool) and Belgian Trappist and lambic beers (3 Fonteinen, Orval, Westmalle, Boon, etc.).
